GI-ESCR participated at the Shifting Narratives Conference: Political economy of public services, spending and production

We participated in the Shifting Narratives Conference from 27 - 30 June 2022! This conference brought together academics, social activists and trade unionists to discuss their current observations and findings on narrative shifts in public services, spending and production (PSSP) globally.

GI-ESCR participated in the following sessions:

  • Thematic workshop on the Global Manifesto for Public Services

As part of the Public Services Facilitation Group, joined by Rebecca Riddell, Co-director of the Human Rights & Privatization Project at NYU School of Law, this session discussed the Global Manifesto for Public Services, the process of developing it and how it can be useful for movements and academics.

  • Regional Workshop on education in Africa

    Wednesday 29 June 2022,

Ashina Mtsumi, Programme Officer for Public Services and Africa Representative, moderated a discussion on the concerted effort to promote universal public education services across African countries, led by both local and international social movements.

  • Beyond the conference: Round-table discussion on follow-up to conference, progressive recovery, key future narratives on PSSP

Rodrigo Echecopar, Director of Advocacy and Strategy joined the final roundtable discussion on follow-up to conference, progressive recovery, key future narratives on PSSP, together with Tue Anh Nguyen (IIPP), Surbhi Kesar (SOAS), Danny Bertosa (PSI), Wol-San Liem (ITF) and Aderonke Ige (CAPPA Africa).
