Journalists learn about the Abidjan Principles in Ivory Coast
GI-ESCR participated on 9 July to an event for journalists to present the Abidjan Principles on the human rights obligations of States to provide public education and to regulate private involvement in education. The event was organised by the Réseau Ivoirien pour la Promotion de l’Education Pour Tous (RIP-EPT).
Journalists play an essential role to ensure transparency and accountability, including in education. The aim of the workshop, that gathered about 30 journalists and bloggers, was to explain how the Abidjan Principles can be used by journalists as a tool to asses governments’ and private sectors’ efforts and impact when it comes to their role and action in education.
The event was part of a series of activities conducted by the RIP-EPT to encourage the implementation of the Abidjan Principles, a ground-breaking text adopted in 2019, which lays out the legal standards on the right to education.
