CEDAW includes GI-ESCR's submission in latest draft General Recommendation

GI-ESCR's inputs on the impact and importance of renewable energy on indigenous women and girls, as well as their effective participation, consultation, and consent in climate change mitigation measures and strategies have been included in the Committee on the Elimination of All Discrimination against Women’s newly updated draft general recommendation on indigenous women. These elements were stressed in our previous submission to the first draft of the general recommendation. Thanks to this, we have ensured that the updated draft has a stronger narrative on indigenous women’s participation in the green transition.

As a next step, GI-ESCR with partners will go over the newly shared draft and make another submission to the Committee, aiming to fine tune this version to further strengthen the human rights framework on indigenous women and girls. Civil society wishing to input into the draft can find more information here or contact juliette@gi-escr.org.
