The Global Manifesto for Public Services inspired normative proposal submitted to the Constitutional Convention in Chile
The Global Manifesto for Public Services was incorporated in the normative proposal on universal quality public services and fair taxation policy we submitted with partners to the Constitutional Convention in Chile. The proposal received wide popular approval, with 16,388 signatures, and was shared with the members of the convention.
The ideals of the manifesto, according to which universal quality public services are the foundation of a fair, just, and sustainable society echoed in the normative proposal while adapting to the needs of the Chilean people. Further, it incorporated the principles of universal quality public services set in the manifesto concerning accessibility, non-discrimination, participatory and transparent management, adaptability, public financing, gender equality, environmental and ecological awareness, protection of workers, and guarantees against commercialisation and financialisation.
The inclusion of these principles in the proposal and its wide popular approval shows the ability of the manifesto to meet the needs of people in legislative processes, influence the public debate, and mobilise a broad-based movement to demand public services. If the proposal is approved, the new Chilean constitution would be the first legislation influenced by the Global Manifesto for Public Services.
