The UN Special Rapporteur on the right to education, Dr Koumbou Boly Barry, today presented a report on the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the right to education during the 44th Session of the Human Rights Council. In her report, the Special Rapporteur highlights the range of significant challenges created and amplified by the CODI-19 pandemic, and how the Abidjan Principles on the right to education can provide guidance for States as they navigate these challenges.

In a joint statement submitted to the Human Rights Council, GI-ESCR and the Right to Education Initiative welcomed the report of the Special Rapporteur and emphasised her call for States to, in particular, prioritise the funding and delivery of free, quality, public education, and implement minimum standards to secure the privacy and data protection for learners and teachers.
