GI-ESCR participates in the Pan African CSO consultative forum ahead of the Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers
GI-ESCR’s Africa Representative, Ashina Mtsumi, participated in the Pan African CSO Consultative Forum ahead of the Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers, scheduled for 27 – 28 April 2022, in Nairobi, Kenya. GI-ESCR’s presentation, ‘Equitable access to learning and education: Taking the right to education seriously’ emphasised the role of public education, particularly in establishing resilient education systems in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The presentation also highlighted the challenges facing public education and the concerns raised by the increasing involvement of commercial actors in education. GI-ESCR stressed the importance of education policy being guided by the elements of the right to education, as expounded in the Abidjan Principles, to ensure universal access to education and learning.
The meeting produced a final communique to be presented to the Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers.
