Joint Alternative Report to the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights for the fifth Periodic Review of Chile
Last March GI-ESCR submitted a Joint Alternative Report on the current situation of ESCR in Chile to influence the Fifth Periodic Review of the country by the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (CESCR).
The Joint Alternative Report was elaborated in partnership with Red de Nuevo Pacto Social (NPS) of Chile, a network of more than 750 civil organizations. It provides a gender analysis of the country, based on the experiences of women, LGBTI groups, and indigenous communities. The report also assesses the implementation of the right to social security, housing, education, and health.
NPS works for the human rights of the most excluded communities, with the purpose of building a more just, democratic and sustainable country. Fundación para la Superación de la Pobreza, Techo-Chile, Educación 2020, Observatorio Ciudadano, Comunidad de Organizaciones Solidarias y ACCIÓN participated in the elaboration of the report. Valuable input also came from Foro por el Derecho a la Educación Pública, Red de Estudios para la Profundización Democrática, and Colegio Médico de Chile
