22 April | Magdalena Sepúlveda presents key publication on indigenous peoples’ rights and ESC rights in the new Chilean Constitution
This 22 April, in the context of the constituent process in Chile, the Chilean NGO and partner of GI-ESCR Observatorio Ciudadano is launching a key publication on indigenous peoples’ rights and ESC rights in the new Constitution for Chile. Our Executive Director and former UN Special Rapporteur Magdalena Sepúlveda Carmona will participate as one of the presenters and commentators of the publication.
Through this impressive piece of work, Observatorio Ciudadano has sought to systematise information that can strengthen the participation of indigenous peoples, as well as other discriminated sectors, in the context of the constituent process currently underway in Chile, so that the resulting fundamental charter can incorporate the human rights standards that apply to and concern them, in a manner that is consistent with comparative law trends.
Published by the Observatorio Ciudadano, the publication was written by Karina Vargas, José Aylwin, Silvana Lauzán and Felipe Guerra. The authors, as well as Alihuen Antileo, a candidate for the constituent assembly and an EU representative, will also present and comment on the publication.
The event will be moderated by Paulina Acevedo.

The Observatorio Ciudadano (Citizens’ Rights Watch) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization devoted to the advocacy, promotion and documentation of human rights. It was founded in September of 2004, in the city of Temuco, Chile, as the Observatorio de Derechos de los Pueblos Indígenas (Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Watch) by a group of citizens from diverse places of the country, varied professions and ethnic origins.
