JOIN US! Webinar “Getting all children back into better schools: The essential role of public education in the COVID-19 era” at the World Bank 2021 Annual Meetings - September 28th

GI-ESCR and partners are organising the webinar “Getting all children back into better schools: The essential role of public education in the COVID-19 era”  - September 28th, 10-11.30 am (EDT) / 2 – 3.30 pm (GMT), as part of the World Bank’s Civil Society Policy Forum (CSPF), Annual meetings 2021. Find attached the flyer with full information.

With 24 million children expected to drop out of school and two-thirds of countries cutting budgets for education, public education systems are facing intense pressure in many countries. Concurrently, the inability of many low-fee private schools to support children during COVID-19 points to deep flaws in this model.

The panellists of the event will include the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education, Dr. Koumbou Boly Barry, presenting recommendations from her latest report regarding the role of public education in the COVID-19 response and recovery period and Dr. Jaime Saavedra, Senior Director of Education Global Practice at the World Bank Group who will be discussing the World Bank’s COVID-era education approach.

Importantly, the event will launch a new research cosponsored by GI-ESCR and other partners, that examines success stories in public education, with lessons for countries and the World Bank as they seek to build better and more equitable education systems.
