Global Gathering of International Right to Health Advocates in Brussels: Reverting the Commercialisation of Healthcare Together
From 8 to 10 March 2022, International civil society organisations met in Brussels, Belgium, to strengthen the global movement in support of public healthcare services for all and to reverse the commercialisation of healthcare.
The global convening has been a fundamental step to strengthen the global movement for public healthcare services and to revert the commercialisation of healthcare. Working closely with partners, the Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights played a leading role in organising the global convening and making it happen.
This is the first of a series of global civil society gatherings aimed at increasing cooperation and coordination in research and advocacy activities of international advocacy organisations calling on governments and international financial institutions to support strong, reliable public healthcare services that realise the right to health for all, rather than market-based solutions that prioritise profit over health.
International representatives of the following organisations joined:
Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
Global Justice Now
International Commissions of Jurists (ICJ)
Initiative for Social and Economic Rights (ISER)
OXFAM
People’s Health Movement (PHM)
Public Services International (PSI)
Society for International Development (SID)
STOPAIDS
Viva Salud
