GI-ESCR Team in Action: upcoming events

GI-ESCR focuses on collaborative and dynamic partnerships, working across regions. From Geneva, Switzerland, Mexico City to Kathmandu, Nepal, GI-ESCR staff are participating in key events and discussions on ESC rights issues.

Today, Lucy McKernan, GI-ESCR Geneva Representative and Vicente Silva, are at the General Day of Discussion for the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights to call on the CESCR to ensure #GenderEquality, #ClimateJustice & #SocialInclusion are at the core of the new General Comment.

In Mexico City, Executive Director, Magdalena Sepúlveda is at the Common Action Forum 2019 to discuss innovative solutions to growing social inequalities, financial unease and ecological degradation. Learn more at www.commonactionforum.net.

This week, Ashina Mtsumi, Legal and Policy Officer at GI-ESCR, is in Kathmandu with National Campaign for Education Nepal and Solomon Sacco from Amnesty International, for a workshop with representatives from local governments and civil society on using the Abidjan Principles to inform the drafting of education laws in Nepal.

Sylvain Aubry, Legal and Research Advisor, and Sarah French, Campaigner for GI-ESCR will be in Baltimore with Open Society Initiative on Wednesday, 16 October to take part in a day of discussions and site visits to learn, discuss, and debate the challenges facing students in Baltimore City Schools, and similarly situated districts in the US.

On Thursday, 17 October, GI-ESCR is co-hosting a panel discussion at the World Bank Annual Meeting, Civil Society Policy Forum on emerging challenges in the right to education, and alternatives in light of the Abidjan Principles.
