GI-ESCR calls upon the relevant authorities of the Italian State to abide by its obligations under international human rights law, regarding evictions

We jave joined The Shift, an organisation specialized in the promotion and protection of the right to adequate housing, to make public an open letter in order to call upon the relevant authorities of the Italian State to abide by its obligations under international human rights law, regarding the many cases of evictions that are currently under examination by the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR).

We trust that the Italian authorities will do everything possible to resolve these eviction cases in a fair manner, to avoid irreparable harm to vulnerable people, and to enforce the right to adequate housing, ensuring that authorities honor Italy's international human rights obligations, including the effectiveness of the urgent actions of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

The letter has the signatures of both Leilani Farha, The Shift Global Director, and Magdalena Sepúlveda Carmona, Executive Director of the Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
