GI-ESCR and partners submitted a request for a thematic hearing to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

On December 9th, the Global Initiative for Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (GI-ESCR) and the Initiative for Human Rights in Fiscal Policy submitted a request for a thematic hearing to the 186th period of sessions of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), emphasizing the importance of linking fiscal policy and human rights in the context of the reform of the international financial and taxation system, as well as the need for regional cooperation.

The hearing request also seeks to monitor the recent advancements in the relationship between fiscal policy and human rights in Latin America since the IACHR held a hearing on this issue during its 156th Session in October 2015.

Regional civil society organizations are calling on the IACHR to identify the obligations to effectively utilize the maximum available resources, international cooperation, and extraterritorial obligations of States applicable to the context of the reform of the international financial and tax system, as well as the role of Latin America in this regard.
