GI-ESCR advocates for women's land rights at Expert Group Meeting

The Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights recently participated in an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on good practices and lessons learned in realizing women’s rights to productive resources, with a focus on land (held in Geneva, Switzerland, 25-27 June 2012). The EGM was convened by UN-Women and the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The Global Initiative contributed the background paper for the meeting, which is available HERE.

Approximately 40 participants attended the meeting, with experts from 15 different countries, covering all regions (Bangladesh, Canada, China, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Jordan, Kenya, Kyrgystan, Namibia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Uganda, USA, Vanuatu). The following UN entities also participated FAO, UNAIDS, UNCTAD, UNDP, UN-HABITAT, UNRWA, WFP, the Former Special Rapporteur on adequate housing and the Working Group on discrimination against women in law and practice.
